In this snappy little video, Matt Cutts, one of those lucky Google employees with two hour Whole Foods lunches and 6 weeks of vacation at a time, talks about "alt" tags. Before your eyes glaze over, give it a look. It's only 3 minutes and you will be surprised at how simple it is and how important. It's something I have been trying to learn "a little" about lately. I have also been learning about all the things I have been doing wrong but that's another post! Like not posting both the width AND height of my images so the page can load without YOU having to wait for the photos first....I do apologize for that and am about fixing the matter! Now I simply eliminate the height number and change the width number to 600px or 800px, which fits on this "stretch" Minima template. But that's another story I already sort of told! :)
In this video~
Matt Cutts Discusses the Importance of alt Tags !!
you see a quick and simple lesson in how to use alt tags to allow google spiderbots to find the lovely photos you post on your blog. This can lead to more traffic for your blog if someone comes looking for an image through google image search and finds YOUR picture! An easy and painless quickie about "image search optimization" that will probably make your brain light up more than your Chai Latte.

Fantastic! Although, he didn't exactly tell us how to compose the Alt tag, but I squinted a lot and saw it... Alt =" ". :)
hey lady - thanks for the video on alt tag - girl, there is SO MUCH i need to learn - like, how to enlarge images that you mention in your post - and how in the world did you get the images on your sidebar that large? and the google lost in translation - see? i need a full-time study course, i kid you not! anyway, your site always looks great! love it!
You GO, Linda!
Isn't it great to learn stuff like this so you can have more control over what you do?
The whole process of loading photos to a post with Blogger is so irritating. And so SLOW. There was a time when I knew how to place them into post without even using the upload feature, but I totally forgot how to do it.
The thing I'm learning now is how to use HTML code to space my words around a photo, so that they don't looked so cramped.
It's fun learning new stuff, hu?
Thanks for sharing this, my friend!
Hope you're having a great weekend!

Thanks so much for the info, as I am one of those that really need it. I like the simplicity of my blog, but I would like to know more about posting pictures. I am not quite a Luddite, but close.
it great to learn stuff like this so you can have more control over what you do? Work From Home
sooper dooper pooper scooper... or something ;) lol
This was a good idea and I'll try it. Thanks to Genie Sea for squinting :-)
The one program I find that's indispensable is Graphic Converter. I mostly use it to size images for posting but it has a number of other features.
genie, yes, you got it and I have noticed that my photos are loading with alt tag there but not filled in, making it much easier so check it out!
gypsy, I have learned everything I know by trial and error and hours of messing with my template like changing little numbers, previewing and then going back and seeing what else to change, always previewing first...you can also learn a lot by googling whatever you want to know, like resizing photos for blogger, put that in google search and it will come back with oodles of help and I can help out if you dare...just shoot me an email, dearie ;)
ron, yes, I enjoy messing with my blog and am always changing things around and moving numbers and googling questions about this and that...the photo thingy, I have been trying photobucket for mine and then using the web upload choice, saving me MB in blogger and automatically lets me change the name of my photos, resize, etc...so far so good!
nancy, yes, I know what you mean...I have been doing tweaks since day one of my blog so have learned a few things but every time, if I don't write it down, which I don't, I forget and have to find it again..sigh..age,,,stinks! :)
:Dwolf, well something... :)
susan, what is a graphic converter, I will need to google that and see...I know what you mean about the resizing thing and have been trying photobucket, which is an extra step but so far, so good.
glad everyone enjoyed this little primer for dummies like me, not assuming my readers are dummies but you know what I mean...I will see if I can find one for photos for us and one for sidebar resizing for gypsywoman... love to all♥
